Ford restoration guides
Ford
The Ford marque, in
three forward links.
The Ford restoration index splits into three forward links on distinct chassis signatures. The Mustang pony car runs on the 111-inch wheelbase, anchored on the 1965 Mustang K-code 289 Hi-Po. The Ford Shelby-American branch runs from 1965 through 1970 on the Shelby-VIN prefix, anchored on the 1965 GT350 K-code 289 Hi-Po. The Ford non-Mustang intermediate line runs on the 116-inch-wheelbase unibody, anchored on the 1970 Torino Cobra 429 CJ (Ford-side C6ME / C5OE short-block, distinct from the Mercury 429 SCJ on the C5AE-6015-B-series block). Pick the forward link the car you are restoring sits on.
Why three links
The Mustang / Shelby / intermediate tracks do not authenticate the same way.
All three Ford marque tracks sit on a Ford chassis platform, but the three fitments carry distinct authentication trees. The Mustang track authenticates against the Ford-side K-code 289 Hi-Po short-block, the Mustang-side door tag, and the Marti Report option-code column for the K-code 289 four-barrel. The Shelby-American track authenticates against the Shelby-VIN prefix (S FM), the SAAC-documented Ford-side DSO VIN (9 R FM) shipping record, and the SAAC paperwork that records the Shelby-only option codes (Le Mans hood, side-exit exhaust, serialized aluminum grille emblem). The non-Mustang intermediate track authenticates against the Ford-side C6ME / C5OE 429 CJ short-block castings, the Torino-side trim tag, the Fairlane body stamping code, and the Marti Report cross-reference for the 429 CJ option code.
The three tracks do not interchange at the chassis level. A 1970 Torino Cobra is a Ford-side intermediate car on a 116-inch wheelbase, NOT a Mustang pony car on a 111-inch wheelbase, and NOT a Shelby-American car — the 429 CJ on the C6ME / C5OE short-block, the Torino-Cobra-only hood callout, the Torino-side trim tag (NOT a Shelby-VIN, NOT a Mustang door tag). Cross-reading a Marti Report on an intermediate car against SAAC paperwork on a Shelby-American car, or against a Mustang door tag, is the off-by-one-track error on the Ford marque.

Mustang, Galaxie, Talladega — Ford marque-level overview material, year-aligned.
Ford marque overviews concentrate on the 1964½–1973 first-gen Mustang run, the 1959–1974 full-size Galaxie / XL / LTD carryover on the 118-inch wheelbase, and the 1969-only Talladega NASCAR homologation. Brand-level editorial sits here rather than inside any single model or year drill.
