Frames-off Ford Mustang fastback (1965–1970)

Ford › Mustang › Bundles

The frames-off fastback,
four tracks deep.

A 1965–1970 Mustang fastback frame-off restoration authenticates across four independent tracks. The body stampings answer at the door tag and the Marti Report. The drivetrain answers at the C9OE Cleveland head or the Kar-Kraft Boss 429 rail mount. The interior trim answers at the Shelby-VIN prefix versus the Ford-side DSO VIN. The chassis answers at the 111-inch-wheelbase carryover and the bulkhead-to-dash wiring rework. No single existing guide covers all four; this playlist groups the four guides that do.

Why this playlist

Frame-off restoration is a four-track authentication chain.

Each of the four tracks falls on a different authentication ground — the body stampings, the drivetrain, the interior trim, and the chassis / suspension / electrical. The four do not cross-read: a Marti Report option-code column that authenticates a 1965 K-code 289 Hi-Po says nothing about the Shelby-VIN prefix on a 1965 GT350; a C9OE Cleveland-head casting number that authenticates a 1969-onward Boss 302 says nothing about the bulkhead-to-dash wiring change on a 1967-onward fastback. A frame-off project reads as the conjunction of all four authentication tracks, which is why a single-year or single-engine guide is the right surface for each track but the wrong surface for the project as a whole.

Pick a track to read first. The body-stampings track grounds the door-tag and Marti-Report column for the 1965-onward fastback; the drivetrain track grounds the C9OE-Boss 302 / Boss 351 / Boss 429 fitment chain; the interior trim track grounds the Shelby-VIN-versus-Ford-VIN authentication split on the 1965 GT350; the chassis track grounds the 1967-onward 111-inch-wheelbase transition and the merged-line wiring harness rework. Read all four and the project is authenticated; read one and the other three are still open.
